Turning Ideas Into Action

Nov 15, 2021

Climate Pact Ambassador's u.lab Hub - Kasia Balucka-Debska in conversation with Kenneth Hogg, hosted by Karolina Iwa

"Keeping in connection with the source of my thinking, is probably the most important thing to do. If I'm a trade unionist working in Germany or an elected municipality council in Italy or running a small business in Spain, my sense of future possiblity could be very different in each case. But that's the thing that deserves being brought to life.

Respect that seed of an idea and nurture it and grow that - and do it a day at a time, two days at a time, three days at a time, a week at a time - really small steps, and see where it gets you, so that hopefully by the time you have something that might be called a project, it's something which even the idea of that was never available to you at the start of the process."

When we first watched this interview, we immediately knew we had to share it.

In conversation with Kasia Balucka-Debska from the Climate Pact Ambassador's u.lab Hub, this interview with Kenneth Hogg amply demonstrates the power of being part of the u.lab 1 x experience and includes:

  • How he made the decision that Theory U would be useful for leading change in the context of public service.
  • How he went about creating the necessary conditions for bringing this type of innovative tool into very traditional working environments.
  • How he was able to invite colleagues and management to explore the tools and practices of u.lab 1x to facilitate change.
  • Reflections on the qualitative difference of this approach and the impact on those who had participated.

If you're interested in turning ideas into action, listen to what Kenneth shares about creating prototypes, building containers for conversations, and leaving your opinions at the door.

Are there any specific challenges that you have been noticing in your own contexts when bringing Theory U into your places of work and communities?

How have you been addressing these challenges?

We'd love to hear from you in the comments below.
